Green Spaces

The Unley Council area is “inner suburban” with Goodwood its innermost ward. As a result, our natural heritage is precious and often under threat from other pressures for space, safety, competing aesthetics and damage from neglect or vandalism. Unley does an increasingly good job of looking after these assets but we need to stay vigilant to make sure that we don’t lose little bits from time to time. I want to ensure that we:

  • Promote the use of recycled water where available
  • Examine better ways of supplying water and other care to street trees
  • Ensure that Souter Park and Forestville Reserve continue to receive optimal maintenance
  • Promote awareness of wildlife habitats and corridors and to minimise threats to these during tree replacement programs – especially watercourse upgrades. Possums, ducks and bats all use tree hollows which take many years to form.
  • Encourage identification of significant trees to promote community awareness perhaps with a simple label, listing type, history if applicable and so on – the avenue of trees in Souter Park or larger gums at Forestville could benefit.
