Personal Interests

As long term resident of the Unley area, I find it easy to pursue my interests here.

I enjoy gardening and have put much work into our place – not always apparent! There are many great gardens in Unley, which, with the trees, form part of the ambience of the district.

We’ve always had dogs and regularly visit the local dog parks. Walking is a good way of staying informed about developments andissues in our streets; footpath maintenance, house extensions, tree condition, litter and the graffiti problem. I’d like to see a few dog bag dispensers along some of the main road footpaths as well as just in the dog parks.

History. If you don’t know where you’ve come from, you don’t know where you’re going! Unley was one of the founding villages of Adelaide and its stories have led to our diverse environment today.

Food. Dining. We have a marvellous group of places to eat and drink in our ward. Goodwood Road boasts long-standing Chinese/Thai and Korean restaurants and now adds Vietnamese, Nepali, Mexican, Japanese, modern international/Australian. Special occasions include Chinese New Year and the annual Greek Easter festival.

Cars. I have a 1950 Series I Land Rover that I rebuilt from derelict, drove and enjoyed for over 30 years and am currently completely rebuilding. Then there’s a little convertible 1938 Austin, an awaiting retirement project and the 1954 Morris Minor which is not authentic enough for historic value and will be rebuilt as an electric car. It is this project that has sparked my particular interest in future transport directions.

Bushwalking. I have been a member of the Adelaide Bushwalkers and love walking. I’ve covered a good part of the Heysen Trail over the years and enjoy walking through the hills with friends. As a youth, I went through the Scout movement and have counted myself a conservationist since I was a Cub.
