Transport

We see increasing peak hour traffic on the main roads of our ward: Goodwood, Greenhill and South Roads and Anzac Highway. Whilst Adelaide has less congestion than other cities, I’m sure that this is one area where we don’t want to catch up!

Over the next four year council term, I want to keep a constant eye on the traffic density and keep my attention on the several factors that will help to minimise it. They will be to:

  • Ensure that the council makes all efforts to keep our roadways as effective as possible
  • Support the lobby by several of our councillors and community groups to divert the freight trains to the northern corridor, then to return the Belair line to dual track, electrify it and extend it to Mt Barker, so that we can get a proportion of commuters off the freeway and off our local streets
  • Support the extension of the bike track network and encourage the separation of bicycles and motor vehicles
  • Provide safe parking for motorcycles and scooters, especially in our shopping precincts, as these also reduce traffic congestion
  • Participate in the planning for the extension of the tram network into Unley and to integrate it with other transport options in order to maintain efficiency
  • Make sure that the public bus service is provided in the best way to interact most efficiently and effectively with our community – bus stops designed to not obstruct other traffic, “park-n-ride” facilities provided but not at the cost of local residents’ parking
  • Investigate the viability of secure bicycle parking and a possible locker storage facility to enable cyclists to store purchases, helmets etc. whilst shopping or engaged in community activities.
  • Foster the use of electric vehicles by the installation of charging stations
  • Plan for the integration and interrelation of these transportation streams.
